Contented Mind was started by Rebecca Hill after an overwhelming need from families seeking help.
Family and friends are almost always bewildered as to what to do and how to cope with dementia. I have worked with the Alzheimers Society and within a care home setting. This gave me hands on experience of both the daily joys and challenges for people living with dementia and their families, and led me to combine this with further study. I have a Master of Science in Dementia Studies from the University of Stirling, am a qualified Dementia Care Mapper.
I also volunteer when possible, more recently assisting a group of people with dementia and their carers on a weeks holiday in Cornwall. This enables me to work within an area I am passionate about, improving quality of life through access to nature.
I strongly believe that with the right information and advice as well as practical support, living with dementia can be dramatically improved for both the person living with it as well as their families. I know how many people are unclear on the way forward, what to expect or how to find help. Dementia is different for everyone, and forgetting this is a common mistake. Each person lives and reacts in a different way. There are some general themes but with each personality and life experience comes unique ways in how dementia affects each individual.
